While Aronia, or chokeberry, is being promoted as a potential new crop for farmers and home gardeners in New England, it isn’t likely to replace the blueberry. Bumblebees love the flowers of Aronia, which is native to the eastern U.S. Aronia’s berries are sour raw, but are good in juices and other processed forms.Lois Berg Stack, an ornamental horticulture specialist with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension at Orono, discussed the shrub at New England Grows in Boston earlier this month.
